The thing about Stonewall was that the trans population was not only on the forefront of the whole thing, but that it was supposed to be all of us that were going along for the ride of civil rights and equality. Without our instigation the gay rights people would not have had a flashpoint on which to base their movement. Trans were welcomed for a while, but then the stigma attached to being trans was too much for even the gays and lesbians, so we got thrown off the bus. It has only been in the last few years that the LGB community has again accepted the T part of that equation. Look at any gay rights organization and you will never see transgender listed as part of their title. We're accepted only as a supposedly silent partner.

Michelle is absolutely correct that Stonewall was specifically about tg people when it started. my point was that the gay community used that event as flashpoint for their own peaceful social revolution. i believe our revolution (or evolution) is, in many ways, yet to come.

Anonymous, thanks for the clarification on soldiers and Marines. nothing but respect here for all of our men and women in the various services. and i must admit, while i always try to avoid stereotypes in t-world, i am nonetheless constantly surprised at how many servicemen are involved in our community either as tv/cd's or as admirers.

Contrats on your transition, Brenda. and congrats to you as well, cindy and chellie on coming out "more and more" or doing the "selective out." that's what i've been doing at it's been nothing but a positive "stress-reducing" experience so far! :)Nelhew, coming out isn't a requirement of this t-life, but having a good self image kinda is, doll. please try to be patient with yourself as you learn new techniques and styles that will enhance your feminine self. :)

Just a historical note concerning Stonewall. The riots were started specifically because of harassment of transgender people. We were at the front line of this and it was our defense of our lifestyle that led to gay rights. Unfortunately, most people in the gay community have chosen to forget that salient point. first, a small clarification - a marine isn't a soldier, he's a marine. :) Being an airman myself, I know how hard it is to express one's self in such ways. The hard part about veterans is that all the friends and social contacts you make are made in that military context, so to come out to them is a lot harder.

Well everyone has to come out sometime.. Mine was many years ago.. Since then I've become post-op and yes I still shop at the same places due to the fact some items still fit better... My family was a little taken back at first but now I have full support of them... Chin up!!
